Yana Timmons, Counselor Intern Supervised by Dawn-Petrice Youngs, LPC-S

Hello, I’m Yana Timmons, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) supervised by Dawn-Petrice Youngs, LPC-S. I am deeply passionate about supporting persons of color, individuals who have been personally touched by suicide or are experiencing thoughts of suicide, and young adults/adults navigating life transitions. My goal is to provide a safe, empathetic space where healing, growth, and hope can thrive, even in the face of life’s most challenging moments.

Who I Am

As someone who believes in the power of resilience and community, I understand the importance of creating a supportive environment where clients feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether you’re navigating cultural challenges, experiencing thoughts of suicide, or adjusting to significant life transitions, I’m here to walk alongside you with care and understanding.

My practice focuses on empowering individuals to embrace their strengths and find clarity and purpose during difficult times. Through a blend of evidence-based techniques and cultural sensitivity, I strive to foster meaningful change in the lives of my clients.

Areas of Expertise

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing a variety of challenges, including:

  • Support for Persons of Color: Offering culturally competent therapy that addresses the unique challenges faced by communities of color, including discrimination, identity exploration, and cultural trauma.

  • Suicide Support and Prevention: Providing a safe, nonjudgmental space for individuals experiencing thoughts of suicide or those grieving the loss of a loved one.

  • Young Adults and Adults in Transition: Guiding individuals through life’s major changes, such as career shifts, relationships, and personal growth.

  • Stress and Emotional Regulation: Helping clients develop tools to manage overwhelming emotions and stressors.

  • Identity and Self-Discovery: Supporting individuals in exploring their personal identity, values, and life purpose.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe therapy is a collaborative journey where clients are empowered to take an active role in their healing process. My approach is rooted in empathy, cultural competence, and evidence-based practices, tailored to each individual’s unique needs. My methods include:

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helping clients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns to build healthier emotional responses.

  2. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Providing tools for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness, particularly in moments of crisis.

  3. Strength-Based Approach: Focusing on clients’ inherent strengths and resources to empower them to navigate challenges.

  4. Trauma-Informed Care: Creating a safe space to process past trauma and rebuild a sense of safety and self-trust.

  5. Culturally Competent Care: Addressing the unique experiences of persons of color and fostering a space of understanding and respect.

  6. Suicide Prevention Support: Offering compassionate guidance to individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts, helping them develop coping strategies and access hope.

Through this approach, I aim to meet clients where they are while helping them move toward their goals with clarity and confidence.
